Start with your child’s surroundings
Dust, pollen, mould, pet dander and strong odours can be allergy triggers. Each child is different; discuss your observations with the doctor rather than assuming that every possible trigger affects your child.
Keep a manageable cleaning routine
Clean and vacuum regularly, and wash bedding, curtains and washable soft toys weekly. Keep indoor air clean and pay attention to damp or mouldy areas. Limit pet exposure in your child’s bedroom.
Notice patterns
Frequent sneezing, a runny nose, itchy eyes or nose, and night-time coughing are useful symptoms to mention during a visit. Write down when they occur and anything you notice around the same time.
Ask for a plan that fits your family
Home routines support the advice you receive at the clinic. Continue prescribed care as instructed and ask the doctor before changing treatment. Learn more about childhood asthma and allergy care.
